Renewable Energy Consumption Race: No where near the finish line
Written by: Sarfaraz Nasir
It is surprising to know that even after such a global support in using renewable energy, developed countries like the United States has made only a minimal progress in using renewable energy. While there seems to be active programs in reducing the dependence of non-renewable energy sources, more affordable renewable energy production is still lacking. One of the factors is probably the higher cost which discourages consumers to adapt renewable energy sources.
According to the report released in July 2009 by Energy Information Administration, the renewable energy consumption in the United States was just 7%. That means, 93% energy consumption still depended on the non-renewable energy sources.
Another interesting fact about the consumption is that the majority (53%) renewable consumption was using Biomass followed by hydroelectric with 34%. The solar energy consumption was only 1%.
The following picture explains the Renewable Energy Consumption for 2008 in the United States energy supply.

Although the renewable energy consumption has been steadily increasing in last few years, there is still a very long way to go!

Renewable energy is the future, why depend on fossil fuels when we can go renewable.`;”
