Green Jobs Training is Coming

The administration is trying to ensure people about its commitment to economic growth and clean energy future. The U.S. Department of Labor announced $100 million grant for green jobs training through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) on January 6th, 2010. This grant is part of a larger – $500 million initiative to train people in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries and promote economic growth. More grants are expected to be released in coming weeks.

There will be 25 non-profit organizations around the nation receiving the grant. The green jobs training will primarily focus on disadvantaged, unemployed, and displaced workers.

Approximately 33,305 people will benefit from the training grant. Many of the people receiving green jobs training are expected to earn certificates and placed into jobs. Some of the green occupations in which people will be trained include; solar thermal system designer and installer, Wind and Energy Auditing, solar PV system installer (entry level), weatherization technician/installer, agricultural production for biomass crops, sustainable design and construction, and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate.
