How Cell Phone Recycling Works

According to the CTIA there were 276.6 million wireless subscribers as of June, 2009 in the United States representing 89% of the total population. Since the technology is always evolving and new phones are coming with cool features to market frequently, thousands of cell phones are thrown away into trash every year. Cell phones waste is considered e-waste. Therefore, recycling of cell phones is being increasingly called ecycling.

So, where do cell phones go after they are trashed? Well, they often end up in landfills which is a major concern. Cell phones and chargers contain toxic materials that can potentially contaminate drinking water and food sources.
