Green Christmas: 10 tips for your eco-friendly holiday
Written by: Sarfaraz Nasir
Celebrate Christmas this year with lot of “Green”!
Holidays are around the corner. Many of you are probably done with your shopping too. While you get ready to celebrate Christmas with your friends and family, try your best to reduce your holiday carbon footprint.
Here are the ten tips that can help you celebrate eco friendly Christmas:
- Consider an artificial Christmas tree that can be reused for many years. After the holiday, you can pack it in the box and put it away until the next year.
- If you like to use the real tree, at least make sure it is not thrown away in the trash after the holiday. Check your local area to see if the tree can be recycled. Many companies ground trees into wood chips that can be used as mulch. This will greatly help to save space in landfills.
- Try to reuse decorative tree ornaments. If you do not like to reuse the same ornaments every year, exchange with your friends and family members.
- Use low-energy lighting for decorating in and out side the house. No need to put halogen bulbs everywhere. Besides, they won’t look good.
- Turn off lighting during the day. Use a timer if possible to turn ON and OFF lighting.
- Purchase gifts made out of recycled materials.
- Avoid using Styrofoam or disposable cups, plates and silverware.
- Avoid wasting food. If you are cooking dinner, do not go overboard.
- Give a gift to the environment. Plant a tree.
- Enjoy!
Have a wonderful Green Christmas!
